Saarbrücken, Germany, October 12, 2026 – Swift Fuel GmbH, based in Saarbrücken, announced a major milestone in the transition from leaded Avgas 100LL to unleaded Swift 100R: the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) have officially validated the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) expanded Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) and their associated Approved Model Lists (AMLs).
The FAA previously expanded Swift’s STCs through AMLs to cover more than 1,600 aircraft models and 1,200 engine types, officially approving them for operation on Swift 100R. These expanded approvals cover approximately 70 percent of all FAA type-certificated aircraft models. Following validation by EASA and the UK CAA, the approvals now also apply to the corresponding EASA- and UK CAA-certified aircraft and engines.
“EASA’s validation is the critical step toward widespread use of Swift 100R in Europe.”Dr. Thomas Albuzat, Managing Director of Swift Fuel GmbH
EASA and UK CAA STCs can now be ordered online at www.swiftfuel.eu/100r-stc. Owners can quickly check whether their aircraft model or engine is approved for Swift 100R using the website’s search tool.
Additional approvals for high-compression engines and aircraft, including models from Cirrus, are expected next year.
Expanding fuel availability
The rollout of Swift 100R, developed by U.S. AVGAS specialist Swift Fuels LLC of West Lafayette, Indiana, began in 2024 with an initial STC for the Cessna 172S and 172R. The Lycoming IO-360-L2A engine used in these aircraft was approved under a separate STC, which EASA promptly validated for Europe. Swift 100R is now available at eight airports in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, and Belgium.
Bollinger Aviation provides distribution infrastructure and a price advantage
Swift Fuel GmbH works closely with Bollinger Aviation to distribute the fuel. Martin Bollinger, Managing Director of Bollinger Aviation and responsible for sales, highlighted the economic benefits and the expansion of the distribution network:
“Swift 100R currently sells at a slightly lower price than Avgas 100LL. Our goal is to maintain this price advantage over the long term. Swift 100R is an attractive fuel in terms of both price and quality. Another public Swift 100R fuel station has opened at an airport near Hannover and has been in operation since the end of September.”Martin Bollinger, Managing Director of Bollinger Aviation
